To take Ally’s yoga class is always a gifted metaphor for life. As she guided a packed room of 40 at Love Yoga in Venice, she introduced this theme — “depth is not always best.”

My monkey mind, so often a steady stream of constant motion, was stopped dead in its downward dogma with Ally’s five words.

I have been on a personal odyssey to explore who I am since a powerful workshop opened my door to discovery in 2012. And, I have gone deep AF. Which has been a two-sided sword, a true duality. On the positive side, to open my heart, to learn, to shed, and to expand with passion. And yet at times, I have gotten lost in my plot. Which seeded an inner angst and at times polarized people I cherish in my life. (If you have been lanced upon my journey, I am deeply sorry. Thank you for your love and patience).

Ally continued as we moved through postures. She spoke of the fact that when we seek something, it can become elusive. We are “trying.” Trying, is actually when things get hard. We want it. So badly. We white knuckle clutch it before we even have it. And then perhaps, just maybe, we get it. And we clutch it even more fiercely. And then we seek the clutch of the next next.

Instead, Ally spoke of “seeing the smooth.”Being in allowance.”

This landed for me powerfully. There is a limitless universe of discovery once you enter your universe of self. And as I experienced on my quest, the great expanse can overwhelm.

We can welcome learning with ease, even when not always easy to receive. And then, we can just let it all go. All of it. And just be.

We can go deep without being heavy.

And sometimes…depth is simply not best.

We can be light — without being superficial. And simply roll around in the tall grass and make love. That is pretty golden…

~go inward~

Where can you be greater in allowance, and as Ally teaches, to see the smooth?

The three dots at the end of each drop is an invitation. For your share your own stories, your own reactions, your own wisdom sparked. One Golden Thread is simply a catalyst for expression, and yours is invited…

Ally Bogard is a next-lovel yoga teacher whose narrative is as potent as the precision of her guided practice. Her “just makes sense” approach helps us listen to ourselves. In my experience, when you listen to yourself in her presence, you discover something that you did not see prior. Ally, as her name wikis, “unites us all.” Well named, Mr. and Mrs. Bogard.
